Research analyzes and disseminates TV ratings, digital/social as well as consumer insights (information about consumer trends, attitudes and behaviors) to multiple teams throughout the company, including Programming, Production & Development, Marketing and Press departments. These teams use focus groups, surveys and other tools to provide qualitative and quantitative support in order to develop an understanding of each network's target audience. Areas of research include, but are not limited to, Programming, Ratings, Digital, and Consumer Insights.   Data Science is responsible for all data science and analytic products that serve Viacom with the goal of placing the networks on the leading edge of advanced analytics in the entertainment industry. Through access to linear and digital data, these teams identify, develop and implement appropriate statistical and data mining analysis to address business challenges across the organization, as well as provide actionable insights with a clear impact on return on investment (ROI).   Data Strategy aids various internal clients in making data-driven strategic decisions. This involves evaluating the effectiveness of previous branded campaigns and learning from the actions Viacom and our competitors have done in the past to craft better campaigns. These teams also help facilitate the acquisition of new data sources with various vendors and streamline data workflow across departments to elevate the utility of data. They use data at a campaign-level, audience-level and post-level to determine data-driven insights for future engagements.

Technology internships at Viacom give students the chance to connect with audiences across television, digital, mobile, games and virtual worlds. This includes things like: - Build and maintain sites – think comedycentral.com, mtv.com and more - Explore the Experience Room – a start-up for incubating new ideas, where you can focus on prototyping and testing new products that address unmet user needs - Produce consumer-facing products, including apps for iOS, Android and Xbox - Create and test digital products for a variety of Viacom brands, like web and mobile games for Nickelodeon   Areas include, but are not limited to the following groups: - Application Development - Engineering - Games - Product - Quality Assurance (QA) - Web Development

Design internships at Viacom are digital focused (UX/UI and Product).   We require that you include a link to your online portfolio on your resume.   DigitalDesign (Digital/UX/UI/Product) starts with early design ideation through final execution of design deliverables and prototypes. They work on a range of projects from new product concepts, wireframe creation and/or sketches of concepts, building low-fi prototypes and hi-fi mockups. Web Design teams focus on web development, starting with image preparation to constructing of web pages.

Business & Legal Affairs (JD candidates only) handles legal matters across various Viacom networks. Areas include, but are not limited to: Digital Business, Employment Law, Series Development & Production, Music Rights and more. Candidates must be enrolled in law school to apply.   Music & Media Licensingnegotiates costs and secures rights for music and other media used in programming. They research and review copyright ownership information, draft and prepare music licensing contracts for execution and analyze programming rights information for internal and external clients.   Standards& Practicesoversees content for all original programming, live and filmed content and advertising, ensuring it meets the standards of each channel. They are also responsible for screening music videos weekly and meeting with the music and talent department to approve music videos that air on each respective channel.

Business Development & Strategy identifies growth opportunities and contacts new businesses, with the goal of driving new and incremental revenue across Viacom networks. These teams handle all prospecting, strategic ideation and planning, as well as execution of all marketing programs for new clients.   Consumer Products extends programming trademarks to build licensing and products including book publishing, home video and audio tapes, apparel, and children's toys. These teams ensure that our products have a retail presence in the marketplace and that Viacom is considered a first-class partner to licensees, retailers, and partners both domestically and internationally.   Distribution & Business Development negotiates distribution agreements, maximizing revenue and marketing opportunities from traditional (Comcast, DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, etc.), digital (Amazon, Hulu, etc.) and new media distribution channels while ensuring that fans can discover and engage with Viacom content on every available device and platform.   Marketing communicates the value of each network to viewers and the cable communities. Interns will play an integral role in building and engaging customers, strategies, and campaigns. There are various areas within Marketing that contribute to the overall impact of the networks' message. These areas include Consumer, Digital/Social Media and Integrated. - Consumer Marketing is responsible for all strategic planning and execution of on and off-channel campaigns. These teams are responsible for defining network objectives, targeting audiences, researching insights, and developing strategies. They facilitate the ideation and implementation of consumer facing events associated with each show, and work across departments to ensure a 360 marketing plan is working cohesively toward launch. - Digital/Social Media Marketing develops and executes strategy for all major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.), and for network series and specials. Their main goals are to drive on-air tune in, boost show awareness, and cultivate consumer engagement. - Integrated Marketing works with advertising partners to build co-branded marketing programs tied to their respective channels, events, and shows. Their work includes development of custom creative linear television, digital platforms, and cross-network campaigns to ensure Viacom reaches fans everywhere. Marketing & Partner Solutions is a leading innovative Ad Sales organization that delivers the advertising revenue across all Viacom cable TV networks using state of the art research, data, partner marketing, and sales strategy approaches. They work across all media platforms – TV, digital, social, experiential/live events, emerging platforms; and all audiences. Overall this department helps drive brand value, manages channel priorities, meets distribution opportunities, increases revenue and considers cross channel goals.

If you are interested in those functions, please apply for our West Coast opportunities.    Creative Development handles the creation of digital and linear projects from initial pitch to premiere. This could include scripted, unscripted series, specials, docs, as well as short form stunts. These teams work with writers, producers and show runners to create content that utilizes new storytelling formats and new production models. Programming handles day-to-day scheduling of content on our networks; this includes short and long term planning of linear and multi-platform events, stunts and/or marathons. Aside from linear, the programming strategy team plans and schedules content on all platforms where our content can be found: apps, online, Video-On-Demand (VOD), Snapchat, etc. In addition, they handle the relationships with production companies that provide original and acquired content and ensure all content is delivered and ready for air.

Digital Media works to optimize media for all social platforms and help build buzz around new season launches, while maintaining the presence of our shows online.They draft editorial content, handle creation for our web and mobile applications and engage fans in the digital space.  In addition, they create photo and video assets such as GIFS, infographics, memes and more. They also report insights via various social media analytical tools (e.g. Audience Insights, Twitter Analytics) which are key in gathering data.

Communications/Public Relations communicates the company's strategic vision both externally and internally; and generates awareness of the channel, driving tune-in to our programming and enhancing the image of our brands through media outreach. They connect with our audiences by telling compelling, consistent and profound stories that ultimately build brand advocacy. They draft press releases, pitch letters, tune-in alerts, programming notes, press strategies and more. These teams may also assist with talent press days, red carpet events and tentpoles.   Public Affairs develops and leads multi-platform social change initiatives that empower the channels’ audiences to have an impact on the biggest challenges facing the nation. Through non-profit partnerships, charitable contributions, special events and employee volunteerism, Public Affairs is essential to advancing the causes and issues that are meaningful to Viacom’s audience and employee base. They are charged with using the networks’ superpowers for good.
